2022 – #52 Ancestors Challenge – Week 10 – Worship

My husband was a preacher’s kid; he was a stepson of a preacher. I know he spent all day Sunday in church, and he played the piano for the church services. I believe Rev. Davis set the foundation for my husband’s religious faith. Rev Davis served as senior pastor at the Sweet Home Baptist Church in Fairfax, Oklahoma. On May 30, 1922, Leon Davis was born in Hugo, Oklahoma. In 1942, when Leon signed up for the World War II Draft, he worked at the Aldridge Hotel in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Listed for its role in the commercial development of Shawnee, the Aldridge Hotel is in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, Shawnee identifies with Oklahoma’s oil boom.

Leon married Allean Hatten in 1955 in Shawnee, but they divorced in May 1969.  Seven children came out of the marriage. On June 5, 2008, he died in Tulsa, Oklahoma, buried in Sperry, Oklahoma, at 86.
