2022 – #52 Ancestors Challenge – Week 28 – Character

The theme for this week was “character.” To me, your character is your attitude, behavior, and beliefs. I struggled with this one. I thought you couldn’t find a person’s character for someone you do not know, but that is not true. My paternal grandfather married in Alabama when he already had a wife, and he’s not the only one in my family that did that. I never met my paternal grandfather, and neither had my Dad. People are who they are, and it’s all right with me. I think that one’s character should matter to the person. What I think of others is my fault and not theirs. Below is a picture of me as the character Nyota Uhura from the original Star Trek TV series.

The character, whose birth name was Grace Dell Nichols (aka Nichelle Nichols), was known for depicting a communication officer on the Star Fleet Ship Enterprise. Nichole was one of the pioneers of African American actresses to be seen on television. She also worked with NASA on recruiting minorities and women. [See Nichelle Nichols – Wiki]
