2022 – #52 Ancestors Challenge – Week 33 – Service

Week 33’s theme is “Service.” Military service. Service stations. In service to others. Even good or bad service at a restaurant.

My first cousin once removed, Frank E. Westmoreland, was identified for this theme because of his military service. In 1930 he was an eight-year-old, living with his maternal grandparents, William and Ella Sloss, in Athens, Alabama. Frank was born on 6 May 1922 in Athens. Frank was a resident of Nashville, Tennessee, when he registered for the World War II Draft on 30 June 1942. He enlisted at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, on 10 April 1943 and was discharged on 10 March 1946. Frank married Lula May Tucker on 18 March 1946 in Alabama. He and his wife co-owned Westmoreland Beauty Shop In Dayton, Ohio. In addition to Franks’ service in the Army, he and Lula always welcomed me to their home during vacation breaks when I was attending Central State University. Frank died on 17 October 2009 at 87 in Montgomery County, Ohio.
