2022 – 52 Ancestors Challenge – Week 04 – Curious

I know I would have a problem with this one. I am not the curious type. I am more like whatever comes my way than the direction I would go. I guess I wouldn’t say I like the pressure. Recently, I received a DNA match back to my 2nd great-grandmother Jane Allen Sloss, so now I am curious about her children with William Sloss. Margaret, Equilla, Annie, Lucy, James, George, Hattie, and William. William is my great-grandfather, so I have information on him. I also have information on Annie since I have a DNA match with her descendants. Her grandparents came to our house in Youngstown, Ohio, when I was a child.

Back in 2017 and 2018, I had saved the two articles below:

                                          ROCKFORD

Mrs. and Mrs. George Sloss and their daughter, Lucille

were called to Athens, Ala, on account of the death of Mrs

                     Sloss’ mother.[1]

                                           ROCKFORD

Mrs. and Mrs. George Sloss, 1310 Kent, recently surprised their

daughter, Ada Lucille McDad, with a birthday party.[2]

The reason I was looking at Rockford, Illinois, was because my grandfather had lived there briefly. So, I thought maybe if the Sloss family lived there, there would be a reason for him to be there. So, could this George Sloss be a descendant of my George Sloss or descendant of one of the other Sloss family siblings?

I found a marriage between George Sloss and Viola McWade. The wedding was on 8 Jun 1937 in Alabama. His parents were George Sloss and Mary Smith, and her parents were Tony and Charlotte Sewell.[3] Charlotte’s death was the 26 Jul 1942 in Alabama.[4] I found a marriage license between George Sloss and Mary Smith in Limestone County, Alabama, dated 22 Jul 1907.[5]

George and Mary Sloss, son and daughter-in-law, were found living in New Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama, with Allice Armstrong in 1910.[6] George was living in new Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama, with his parents, Andrew and Alice Sloss, in 1900.[7] Ada McDade lived with her parents, George and Viola Sloss, at 1028 So camp street, in Rockford, Illinois, in 1940.[8]

I did find the Mr. and Mrs. George Sloss from the articles; however, it looks like they are not my George Sloss, the descendent of William and Jane Sloss.
